Face Yoga has actually been around for a VERY long time, and yet it seems to be having some kind of resurgence.
So, Lets get down to the bottom of it.
What is the deal? / the point?
Does it really do any good?
Should we all be doing it?
OK! First - What is the deal?
Bit of a science lesson (Nah, not really; just a wee intro to the subject!)
As we age
(and sadly, by ‘as we age’
I actually mean .... from about the age of 28
YIP, 28 is about the tipping point age in terms of your face and the ageing process!!.)
So.... as we age (about 28!) the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles increase, and our skin’s own ability to maintain elasticity, tone and hydration reduce and we start to get dull, sagging, and more tired looking skin.
And for whatever reason, we have been lead to believe that we need to erradicate the fine lines and wrinkles and then we will look younger!
They have been the poster child for OLD and so lets eradicate those nasties.
And along came ‘solutions’ like BoTox.
The point of BoTox injections is to numb / freeze the muscle -
the idea being that if the muscle is numbed and can’t move, then we can’t MAKE wrinkles! Problem solved, right?
Well, there are a few factors to consider if you are thinking BoTox may be your answer -
While BoTox does stop your muscle from moving and therefore creating creases in the skin, if the muscle is not moving (exercising) it will eventually wither. Also, though muscles DO create creases; the movement of the muscles also helps move and tone the skin, and so when the muscels stop moving, the skin now has no ‘exercise’ and is likely to SAG.
What to do now - withered muscles and sagging skin.
Best we inject in some fillers to tighten the skin and plump everything back out to look like it did when we were younger...........
And the cycle begins, still no ‘exercise’ for the skin so eventually it’s likely we will have to cut out some excess sagging and stretch and tighten up the skin that’s left.
Aaaahhhh - it is an option but there is one thing that this whole process (Numbing, then plumping then stretching and cutting) does not address - the DULLness of your skin.
Enter stage left - Face Yoga
This ‘exercise’ regime offers an holistic approach to the ageing appearance of the skin.
Contorting and stretching the face muscles works all areas - the muscels, the tendons, the skin tone, and increases blood flow (which can help with cell turnover and reducing dullness in the skin.)
It works to release tension from strained facial muscles, smoothing out skin and muscle fibres.
A recent study at Northwestern University followed a group of women over a 20 week period.
They practiced the facial exercises for 30 minutes every day for the frist 8 weeks, and then every other day for the next 12 weeks.
The results were pretty astonishing.
There are some cosmetic facial plastic surgeons who believe that the very act of stretching and contorting the face is likely to CREATE more wrinkles.
This study showed that this was NOT the case, and in fact, due to the exercising nature of the face yoga regime, most participants created ‘fuller’ cheeks (no fillers required!)
Lots of positives with Face Yoga - any downsides?
Well yeah! The issue is TIME.
Who’s got 30 minutes EVERY day for exercising JUST the face, and let’s face it, Who’s going to stick with it over the long haul.....?
If you’re looking for an holistic approach LIKE Face yoga without the massive time commitment.....
Here are the results of a 20 week Face Yoga “experiment”
and Below - the results of a 3 month Galvanic Facial Regimen
For years, Beauty Therapists have used Facial Rods with Galvanic Current to deliver a ‘Non-Surgical’ Face Lift.
The results are fantastic and offer an holistic approach (much like face yoga) dealing with ALL of the aspects of ageing skin so you get Firmer, more Radiant skin, a toning and plumping effect of your muslces.
- All without any pain, needles or recovery time!!
The Galvanic treatment has 2 phases utilising positive and negative ions. There are both iontophoresis and decrustation aspects of a Galvanic treatment which basically means that any products applied to the skin AFTER the treatment will be drawn much deeper into the skin and have a lot more impact.
The lifted look and feel of your skin after a Galvanic treatment will last for about 48 hours and with repeated treatments you will notice benefits build.
Ideally you would treat your skin to a galvanic facial every 3-4 days for consistent ‘face lifting’ stimulation, (you can find your own Galvanic Spa device in the store at zansie.com,) however booking in for a once a month treatment with a Beauty Therapist will still give pleasing results.
